MG ZS SUVs • Petrol, EV and Hybrid+ identified separately
MG ZS Generations, Markets & Powertrains
Identify modern MG ZS SUVs by generation, market and petrol, EV or Hybrid+ drive. Keep historic Rover saloons, ZST aliases and newer body records distinct.

Identify the modern SUV, not the older Rover saloon
Record the complete SUV sales name, production label and original market before selecting parts. Historic MG Rover ZS saloon entries belong to a different vehicle. A short ZS name in a catalogue is useful for discovery only; it cannot establish the same body, engine or chassis.
Preserve the earlier petrol engine and gearbox
An earlier naturally aspirated petrol SUV, a turbo ZS/ZST and a newer petrol model retain separate engine and transmission records. The original manual or gearbox label resolves manual, conventional automatic and CVT requests. A simulated ratio count is not a gearbox identity, and a turbo badge does not select the injection system.
Treat EV revisions as battery-electric records
Keep the earlier and facelift ZS EV body and electrical equipment with their actual build and battery/drive specification. Neither version needs ordinary engine filters, ignition, fuel delivery or exhaust sensors. MGS5 EV is another model, not approval of ZS EV panels, wheel ends or thermal equipment.
Separate newer petrol from Hybrid+
The newer Hybrid+ is a non-plug-in hybrid, with its own combustion engine and dedicated hybrid transmission. A newer petrol CVT is a different unit, while Hybrid+ does not inherit an ordinary petrol alternator or starter from the shared SUV name. Preserve all original suffixes with the accepted component record.
Keep market names and equipment visible
ZS, ZST or Astor wording may lead to a useful market record but is not interchangeability evidence. Keep LHD/RHD, front and rear photographs, actual lamp technology, sensors and door equipment together. A registration year can differ from the production revision used to identify the assembly.
Use exact order-line identities
For each assembly, retain location, complete marking, dimensions, fixings and connection photographs alongside the vehicle record. A catalogue example can narrow identification only within its stated boundary. Accepted supply contents and quantity remain specific to that line, not every modern ZS SUV.
Actual SUV powertrain records
| SUV application | Vehicle record | Purchasing boundary |
|---|---|---|
| MG ZS Petrol / ZST | SUV generation, original ZS/ZST/Astor market name, build, engine and MT/AT/CVT label | Earlier 1.5 and turbo petrol vehicles and the newer petrol SUV keep separate engine, gearbox and body records. ZST/Astor is discovery context, not interchange approval. |
| MG ZS EV | Electric SUV build, earlier or facelift body, battery/drive record and original market | The ZS EV has no combustion-engine service, ignition, fuel-delivery or exhaust-sensor order. MGS5 EV is a different model, not an interchangeable facelift. |
| MG ZS Hybrid+ | Full Hybrid+ sales name, newer SUV generation, 1.5 engine and dedicated hybrid transmission | Hybrid+ is a non-plug-in hybrid with its own dedicated drive. Do not select a petrol CVT, ordinary alternator, conventional starter or old ZS EV body from the shared badge. |
